A Live Performance of the Classics
It’s hard to imagine the holiday season without the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s progressive rock take on Christmas classics. The band made a strong introduction with the 1996 release of their first record, Christmas Eve and Other Stories , and many of their hits were featured on this album. The instrumental tracks are now staples of holiday playlists and seasonal radio, while the record itself is actually a fully realized concept album. Each track progresses through the story of an angel on a mission, a young man finding his way, and a villager looking for peace in desperate times.
The energetic re-imagining of familiar Christmas songs found an enthusiastic audience upon the album’s release, and Christmas Eve is now ranked among the best-selling Christmas records of all time. TSO has released other Christmas collections since then, and have also previously toured with sets based on The Ghosts of Christmas Eve and The Christmas Attic . The 2019 outing will be the first time in eight years that the band has toured with Christmas Eve and Other Stories .
Sudden Success
The overwhelming popularity of Christmas Eve quickly elevated TSO to stardom, and the band has followed a notably unconventional path to musical success. They soon found themselves headlining massive arenas and other large rooms without ever booking shows in smaller venues. It’s worth noting, however, that TSO comprises seasoned musicians who have all earned their place on the stage. By the early 2000s, the band was named one of the top ticket-selling groups of the decade, and they continue to pack arenas around the world.
